DRACO Aircraft, founded in 2023, is a cutting-edge aviation company with a clear mission — to revolutionize Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) capabilities with the groundbreaking HyperSTOL aircraft named Draco. Set to debut in 2028 and inspired by a rich legacy of aircraft innovation, DRACO Aircraft aims to push the boundaries of flight bringing unprecedented performance and accessibility to the world of aviation. It’s not a dream, it’s a reality. Mike Patey built and flew DRACO. What you see is real, now we’ll bring it to you.
Heritage of Excellence:
Our journey began in 2018 under the visionary leadership of Mike Patey, who started enhancing a PZL-104 Wilga 2000 airplane, believing in its untapped potential, creating Draco. About 1,000 WILGA aircraft were built by Poland’s oldest aircraft company, , PZL Okęcie in Warsaw, going as far back as the year 1921. This company would evolve into what we call today, Airbus Poland. Mike’s legacy of innovation and dedication to enhancing aircraft performance laid the foundation for DRACO Aircraft, establishing itself as a symbol of strength, safety, and ease of flight.
In 2023 top managers from Airbus Poland, together with Mike Patey, decided to rebuild the aircraft and re-launch the serial production of the Wilga PZL-104 in the new, modified Draco configuration. In 2024 Airbus and Draco Aircraft agreed on the terms and conditions under which to transfer the intellectual property rights, the type certificate and the necessary tooling equipment to DRACO Aircraft. Together with Mike Patey’s proven improvements on the Wilga PZL-104, DRACO Aircraft will be able to deliver to you a revolutionary, yet highly reliable and certified aircraft
Since the PZL-104 Wilga already has the type certificate by EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) we are able tol introduce the major changes to turn WILGA into DRACO while utilizing existing type certificates. Thus DRACO Aircraft is able to shorten the process of production while using the proven and exceptional reliability of WILGA for your safety and comfort with DRACO. In addition, Airbus Poland will continue to provide all EASA required services until DRACO Aircraft establishes their own EASA certified design organization.
